BERNE - The South Adams High School swim teams picked up a pair of victories Thursday against the visiting Coldwater Cavaliers and Muncie Southside Rebels.

The Starfire boys more than doubled runner-up Southside's score with 156 points. The girls finish with 152 points, 44 ahead of Coldwater.

Jacob Werst led the South Adams boys with his win by more than five seconds in the 200-yard individual medley in 2 minutes, 24.7 seconds. He was also first with a time of 1:05.22 in the 100 butterfly.

Allison Beitler took care of the long distance events for the girls team, finishing first in the 200 freestyle in 2:12.28 and the 500 freestyle in 5:53.05. Erika Waugh also won two events, posting winning times of 2:25.42 in the 200 individual medley and 1:05.69 in the 100 backstroke.

Lance Hummer took the 100 backstroke in 1:14.44 for the SAHS boys team, and Alex Habegger was first in the 100 breaststroke by nearly 15 seconds in 1:05.

Rachel Simon dominated the girls 50 freestyle with a win by more than five seconds in 29.29, and Jansen Yoder took the 100 freestyle in 1:02.34.

Alexia Fox won the 100 butterfly in 1:09.34.

Devils top Jay

A last-second shot lifted the Richmond Red Devils to a 35-34 victory Thursday over the Jay County boys basketball C team.

Tyler Back racked up 25 points for the Patriots, who are now 5-5. Evan Ryder followed with four points.

WJ 7th grade rallies

DUNKIRK - West Jay Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team turned in a 31-28 victory over visiting Eastbrook.

Nate Brackman scored 18 points to lead the Eagles (9-2), who outscored Eastbrook 12-4 in the fourth quarter. James Williams added eight points.

Ryder leads Chiefs

WINCHESTER - The East Jay seventh grade boys basketball team knocked off host Driver 37-29 Thursday.

The eighth grade team lost, 48-39.

Jalen Ryder totaled 15 points to lead the seventh graders to the win. Zach Pryor added 13 points.

Zach Fullenkamp had 11 points for the eighth grade Chiefs. Trey Teagle and Jacob Schlosser each had eight points.

Eagles split with SA

BERNE - Chelsea Tighe racked up two-thirds of her team's points in leading the West Jay eighth grade girls basketball team to a 30-27 win over host South Adams. The seventh graders lost to the Starfires, 38-17.

Tighe's 20 points led the WJMS eighth graders as they improved to 5-2. Ciera Barcus added four points.

Emily Back's five points led the seventh grade Eagles (2-5). Kay Morgan and Dakota Chambers each had four points.

Cavs defeat Fort

COLDWATER, Ohio - Fort Recovery's eighth grade boys basketball team suffered just its second loss of the year Thursday, 31-28 to the Coldwater Cavaliers. The seventh grade team fell to 1-6 with a 44-11 loss.

Jacob Muhlenkamp paced the eighth grade Indians (5-2) with 14 points. Ben Dilworth chipped in four points.

Cole Wendel's four points led the seventh grade team. Evan Schoen added three points.[[In-content Ad]]
