Starfire baseball falls at Memorial Stadium (04/28/07)

South Adams roundup

FORT WAYNE - Brent Habegger enjoyed Memorial Stadium, but it wasn't too much fun for the rest of the Starfires.

Habegger had three of the four hits Friday night for the South Adams baseball team in a 5-2 loss to the Leo Lions at Memorial Stadium in Fort Wayne.

Habegger finished 3-for-4 with a run for the Starfires, who gave up three runs in the top of the third inning and never led in the game. They scored their two in the bottom of the third, but got no closer.

Jacob Sonnentag had the other SAHS hit, and Jordan Sharp scored a run.

Daniel Bollenbacher suffered the loss as he gave up three runs on seven hits in five innings. He also struck out five batters.

Boys track tops two

MONROE - The boys track team bounced back from its loss Monday to Jay County by scoring 68 points Thursday to defeat the Bluffton Tigers (52) and host Adams Central Jets (36).

The girls team finished in the middle of the three-team meet with 57 points. Adams Central won with 74, and Bluffton was third with 25.

Nathan Rupp picked up one of three individual wins for the SAHS boys, taking the 3,200-meter run in 11-minutes, 16 seconds.

Brian Lehman was first in the 800 run at 2:13, and Dustin Ehr won the 400 dash in 56.6.

The Starfires were also first in the 4x800 (9:16) and 4x400 (3:49) relays.

After breaking her own school records in both the 100 and 200 dash Monday, Katie Weaver took both of those events as well as the long jump against the Jets and Tigers. She won the 100 dash in 13.66, the 200 dash at 28.1 and the long jump with a distance of 14 feet, 111/4 inches.

Haleigh Lehman added victories in the 1,600 run (5:43) and 3,200 run (12:48), while leading the 4x800 relay team to a win in 10:46.[[In-content Ad]]
