Moore ties Braves late

FORT WAYNE - South Adams' girls soccer team has been great using corner kicks this season to set up goals. Tuesday, Maddie Moore didn't need any help.

Moore booted a corner kick into the net with less than two minutes to play, forging a 1-1 tie between her Starfires and the host Blackhawk Christian Braves.

South Adams (11-4-1) trailed for most of the game after the Braves' Eli Sommer, who has scored 24 goals on the season, connected 14 minutes after the opening kick. But with time waning, the left-footed Moore lofted a corner kick from the right side high over the goalie's head and into the far corner of the net. Her score came with 1:53 on the clock.

Blackhawk is now 12-1-2 on the year, and the Starfires will face another stout challenge in Monday's sectional opener at Marion when they play Oak Hill (11-0-2) at 6 p.m.
