Starfire boys top ACAC pair

LEO — Evan Liechty, Tim Lehman and Joel Schmidt powered the Starfires past a pair of conference rivals.
The trio of South Adams High School runners each won a pair of events as the boys track team scored 80 points to defeat Leo (72) and Southern Wells (1).
The Starfire girls won just two events as they scored 55 points to trail the host Lions (85). Southern Wells scores 16.
Lehman and Liechty combined to dominate the four longest individual events of the evening, with Lehman taking the 400-meter dash in 52.2 seconds and the 800 run in 2 minutes, 7 seconds. Liechty posted times of 4:52 and 10:43 to win the 1,600 run and 3,200 run respectively.
Schmidt’s victories came in the hurdles with winning times of 15.5 in the 110 event and 43.7 in the 300.
Hannah Moore won the girls 3,200 run in 12:10, and Hannah Mitchel took the shot put at 32 feet, 2 inches.
East Jay tops Delta
Matt Blackford and Nathan Heitkamp each won three events Tuesday to lead the East Jay Middle School boys track team to a 54-46 win over the visiting Delta Eagles. The girls team also won, 69-31.
Blackford and Heitkamp swept the field events, with Blackford taking the shot put at 38 feet, 8 inches, and the discus at 118 feet, 1 inch. Heitkamp won the long jump at 16 feet, 11¼ inches, and the high jump at 5 feet, 3 inches.
Blackford was also first in the 100-meter dash in 12.3 seconds while Heitkamp won the 200 dash in 26.2.
Lizzy Schoenlein was the lone double winner for the Chief girls, taking the 100 dash in 13.6 and the 200 dash in 29 seconds flat. Other victories for the girls team came from Emi Minnich, Ava Kunkler, Erika Kunkler and Hannah Lykins.
Miller leads WJMS
DUNKIRK — Kyndal Miller’s two victories lifted the host West Jay girls track team to a 51-49 victory Tuesday over Selma. The boys teams finished in a 50-50 tie.
Miller took first place in the 200-meter dash in 30.79 seconds. She also won the long jump.
Courtney Cox was first in the 400 dash in 1:10.5, and Kaity Grady took the top spot in the high jump.
Andrew Trewyn won the 110 hurdles and the high jump for the Eagle boys, and Daniel Meranda was first in the 100 dash and 200 dash. Will Watson added victories in the shot put and discus, and Phillip Newsome claimed the win in the long jump.[[In-content Ad]]
