Starfire grapplers top three

MONROEVILLE — The Starfires scored more points in their opening match  than three opponents tallied against them combined
South Adams High School’s wrestling team (18-2) dominated its Allen County Athletic Conference quad meet Thursday, stomping the Leo Lions 52-24, the Bluffton Tigers 69-6 and the host Heritage Patriots 56-12.
Eric Pimentel (126) set the tone for the Starfires with pins in all three of his matches. He won in 39 seconds against Leo and 3:10 against Heritage before eking out his final pin with just one second left on the clock against Bluffton.
Austin Grabau (132) was the only other Starfire to win three contested matches on the evening.
Todd Batt (138), Isaac Werst (182), Klayton Hinshaw (195) and Mason Morningstar (285) all posted 2-0 marks while Matt Nussbaum (106), L.J. Moser (113) and Boaz Marbach (120) were 1-0 in their only contested matches of the night.

JC freshmen win
MUNCIE — The Jay County freshman boys basketball team bounced back from a halftime deficit Thursday to defeat Muncie Central 36-31.
Nick Clemmons scored 15 points to lead the Patriots, who trailed 14-11 at the half. It was their sixth straight victory after an 0-2 start.
Nate Brackman joined Clemmons in double figures with 11 points.

Chiefs top SW

East Jay Middle School’s eighth grade girls basketball team topped the visiting Southern Wells Raiders 33-19 Thursday.
Gabby Hart racked up 10 points and seven rebounds to lead the Chiefs, who improved to 6-1. Cheyenne Loy added nine points and six rebounds.

Tribe dominates
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball teams clobbered the visiting Parkway Panthers 60-29 Thursday. The seventh graders posted a 42-15 victory.
Jackson Hobbs tallied 22 points to lead the Tribe eighth graders, who pushed their record to 4-0. Chase Bruns followed with 12 points.
Caleb Martin and Tom Koester each totaled 10 points for the seventh grade team (3-1). Jason Roessner added eight points.

WJ seventh falls
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s seventh grade boys basketball team suffered a 55-20 loss Thursday to visiting McCulloch (Marion).
Spencer Calvert finished with a team-high five points for the Eagles. Dakota Grove and Andrew Trewyn each added four points.[[In-content Ad]]
