Starfire netters defeat Patriots

BERNE — The South Adams boys tennis team defeated Jay County 3-2 Thursday with the singles players picking up victories in the final match for the Starfires.
Dexter Miller defeated Nick Leuthold 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and at No 2. singles Cole Myers beat Jake Schwieterman 6-4, 6-2.
South Adams’ Marcus Teeter defeated Jay County’s Kody Degler 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Jay County’s doubles teams picked up the only wins in the match for the Patriots, with Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor defeating Jared Rife and Kameron DeLong 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles. Alex Krieg and Evan Mathias beat Blake Baumer and McGarran Clouse 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.
The Patriots host Bellmont on Tuesday in their last match before the sectional tournament.

Marion blows out JC
MARION — The Marion Giants boys soccer team scored four second-half goals in a 5-1 win Thursday over Jay County.
Nathan Heitkamp scored the lone goal for the Patriots with seven minutes left in the game to avoid the shutout.
Zach Fullenkamp and Heitkamp led the Patriots with a pair of shots on goal.[[In-content Ad]]
