HARTFORD CITY — The Starfires are hoping this season’s opening win will be something to build on.
South Adams High School’s volleyball team rolled to a 27-25, 25-15, 25-20 victory in its first match of the season Monday against the host Blackford Bruins.
SAHS also defeated Blackford in its season opener in 2010, but went on to finish just 5-28.
Chelsea Bollenbacher’s serve baffled the Bruins Monday as she finished with nine aces. She also had seven kills, four blocks and four digs.
Alyssa Bluhm added 10 assists, seven digs and four kills.
The Starfires took the varsity match 25-14, 25-21 over Blackford with Hannah Taing contributing three kills and three digs.

Bruins top golfers
GENEVA — Kristen Lehman matched the No. 1 player from the Blackford Bruins, but the South Adams girls golf team fell short Monday in a 201-207 defeat.
Lehman and Blackford’s Carly Weeks-Foy each shot 46 to lead their respective teams at Golf Club of the Limberlost. Sam Schwartz followed with a 50 for the Starfires, who fell to 1-2.
Kristal All shot 53, and Abbie Fisher completed the team score with a 58.
Zoie Mann, the Bruins’ No. 5 player, came up big with a 51, and Alex Morris and Brodie Sones each shot 52.
In junior varsity action, Maddie Graber posted a 63 for the Starfires in a 266-276 loss to Blackford.[[In-content Ad]]
