Starfire spikers pick up 2nd win (09/29/2008)

FORT WAYNE - The Starfires are back in the win column.

South Adams High School's volleyball team picked up its second victory of the year, defeating Wawasee 27-25, 25-18 in its final match at Saturday's Homestead Invitational. Prior to the victory, the Starfires dropped 25-20, 25-6 to East Noble and 25-12, 25-23 to Concord.

Karen Bollenbacher paced SAHS (2-18) on the day with 18 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Jacie Yoder put up 37 assists.

Girls soccer 2nd

FORT WAYNE - The girls soccer team survived one nail-biter. It couldn't come out on top in a second.

South Adams lost 1-0 in a shootout Saturday against Garrett in the championship game of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament.

In the opening round, SAHS and Leo were locked in a scoreless tie after the 80 minutes of regulation play. Both teams went without a goal in 14 minutes of overtime, and remained tied after a five-player shootout.

That led to a sudden-death shootout, with the Starfires won for a 1-0 victory.

A similar scenario played out in the championship game as both teams went scoreless in 94 minutes of play. But this time Garrett won the five-player shootout to take the title 1-0.

The South Adams boys team was elimiated 1-0 in the first round by Heritage. It went on to beat Garrett 5-0 in the championship game.

Leo defeated Heritage 4-0 for the ACAC crown.[[In-content Ad]]
