Starfire swimmers defeat Angola

South Adams roundup

BERNE - Allison Beitler, Jansen Yoder and Erika Waugh all won a pair of events Thursday to lead the South Adams High School girls swim team to a 106-64 win over the visiting Angola Hornets. The Starfire boys won 110-71.

Beitler led a sweep of the 500-yard freestyle, winning in 6 minutes 0.65 seconds ahead of teammates Alyssa Sharp and Emily Miller. She also took the 200 freestyle in 2:14.72.

Yoder's victories came in the 50 freestyle and 110 freestyle in times of 28.21 and 1:02.59 respectively, and Waugh was first in the 200 individual medley in 2:21.19 and the 100 backstroke in 1:03.38.

Alex Habegger was first for the SAHS boys in the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.06, and Caleb Wurster took the 200 individual medley at 2:17.36. Neal Jordan scored 145.1 points to take first place in diving.

Wrestlers top Garrett

GARRETT - Todd Batt and Drew Taylor each scored pins to lead the Starfires to a 34-21 win over the Garrett Railroaders.

Taylor won the 215-pound match over Erich Zumbaugh in 3 minutes, 9 seconds, and Batt pinned Dan Fogt in 5:37 at 125 pounds. Jim West (HWT) added an 8-0 major decision over Geoff Getts, and Adam Hofstettler (160) won when Robbie Wigginton had to take an injury default.

Other victories for South Adams came from John Striker (119), Charlie Hirshy (135), T.J. Burnfield (140) and Josh Ehr (145).

Girls basketball falls

BERNE - South Adams could keep up with the Burris Owls in the second half as it suffered a 41-32 defeat.

Karen Bollenbacher scored 11 points for the Starfires, who trailed by just one at halftime. Tori Kistler had eight points, and Tori Smith added seven.[[In-content Ad]]
