Starfire swimmers top Concordia

FORT WAYNE - The Starfire girls got the job done Tuesday thanks to winning 10 out of 12 events, including all three relays. The boys used their depth to earn a victory.

South Adams High School's swim teams swept the Concordia Cadets by scores of 119-55 (girls) and 97-85 (boys).

Allison Beitler, Erika Waugh and Jansen Yoder powered the girls team with two victories apiece. Beitler's wins both came in SAHS sweeps as she finished first ahead of Kara DeLong and Brooke Kirchhofer in 2 minutes, 20.78 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and in front of Alyssa Sharp and Krystal All in the 500 freestyle at 6:25.14.

Waugh won the 200 individual medley in 2:23.23 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.55, and Yoder took the freestyle sprints with times of 28.25 in the 50 and 1:04.88 in the 100.

Alexia Fox took the top spot in the 100 breaststroke in 1:22.53.

Alex Habegger posted the only contested victory of the boys team as he won the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.48. The Starfires won the meet thanks to 10 runner-up finishes, eight thirds and seven fourths.

Lance Hummer scored 161.15 points to take first in diving.

SA girls Hamm-ered

BERNE - Sarah Hamm of Class 2A No. 2 Winchester scored 11 more points then the entire South Adams squad Tuesday as the Starfires lost 58-13 to the visiting Golden Falcons.

Hamm racked up 24 points against the Starfires (1-7), who scored just one third-quarter point and two each in the first and fourth quarters. Jill Morrison had 10 points for Winchester.

Karen Bollenbacher led South Adams with six points. Jaci Liechty added four points.

In junior varsity action Logan Chandler scored six points for the Starfires in a 24-18 defeat.

Kahlig scores 26

FORT RECOVERY - Elijah Kahlig led the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team to a 37-33 victory in its season opener Tuesday over the St. John's Blue Jays. The seventh grade team lost 28-16.

Kahlig torched St. John's for 26 points to power the Tribe, which outscored the Blue Jays 14-7 in the third quarter. Kent Retz added four points.

Mitch Stammen scored seven points to pace the FRMS seventh graders. Derek Backs followed with five points.

Tribe girls split

DELPHOS, Ohio - The Fort Recovery seventh grade girls basketball team won its first game of the season Tuesday 31-24 over the St. John's Blue Jays. The eighth grade team lost 31-9.

Haley Knapke paced the seventh grade Indians in their victory with 16 points. Tori Lennartz followed with six points.

Kelsee Ontrop's three points led the FRMS eighth graders. Breanna Jutte and Lexi Schmitz chipped in two points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
