Starfires 2nd in conference

GARRETT - The South Adams High School wrestling team finished second Saturday in the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament.

The Starfires scored 176 points to finish as the runners-up behind the host Railroaders (184). Leo was third with 163.5 points.

South Adams walked away with two titles as eighth-ranked Josh Ehr won the 145-pound championship and No. 4 Jim West took first place in the heavyweight division.

John Striker (119), Todd Batt (125), T.J. Burnfield (140), Isaac Werst (152) and Nick Taylor (171) all finished in third place. L.J. Moser (112), Gabe Sprunger (130), Jordan Landers (135) and Cody Conner (189) placed fourth.

Tigers top SA tankers

BERNE - The visiting Bluffton Tigers won 17 out of 24 events Saturday in handing the South Adams swim teams a couple of defeats.

The Starfire boys fell 103-83 while the girls suffered a 112-64 defeat.

Caleb Wurster and Jansen Yoder were the only double winners for SAHS. Wurster finished first in the boys 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 17.12 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:30.97, and Jansen Yoder took the top spot in both the 50 freestyle in 27.71 seconds and the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.97.

Alex Habegger earned the other victory for the boys team with a time of 1:04.49 in the 100 breaststroke. Alexia Fox took the girls 100 butterfly in 1:10.9.

Stars fall to Woodlan

BERNE - The South Adams girls basketball team faded in the second half Saturday in a 45-30 loss to the Woodlan Warriors.

Jaci Liechty and Karen Bollenbacher each scored eight points for the Starfires (2-11), who trailed Woodlan (7-8) by just three at halftime. Tori Kistler added six points.

SAHS also dropped the junior varsity game, 43-36. Tori Smith had 14 points in the defeat, and Whitney Matney added 13.

Fort freshmen fall

ANNA, Ohio - Fort Recovery's freshman girls basketball team suffered its second loss of the season Saturday by a 30-22 score to the Anna Rockets.

Janelle Schwieterman totaled 10 points for the Indians, who are now 5-2. Kelsey Fiely added five points.

Tribe tops St. Marys

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team improved to 8-2 Saturday with a 43-28 win over St. Marys. The seventh graders also scored a victory by a 36-28 final.

Elijah Kahlig led the Indian eighth graders with 12 points. Josh Pohl scored seven points, and Ben Dilworth and Cody Grube each added five.

Mitch Stammen finished with 12 points for the FRMS seventh grade team (2-8). Evan Schoen followed with 10 points.[[In-content Ad]]
