BERNE - The Starfires had hoped for back-to-back ACAC titles. They fell short, by a half-point.

South Adams High School wrestling team finished second as hosts of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament Saturday, totaling 182 points to finish behind champion Garrett (182.5).

Leo (164.5) was third in the eight-team field.

Todd Batt won the 103-pound title for the Starfires, pinning Logan Buuck of Woodlan in 1-minute, 48 seconds in the championship match. Jackson Werst defeated Aden Feasel of Adams Central 8-1 for the championship at 215 pounds, and Jim West fought off Woodlan's Joe Grueb 3-1 to win the heavyweight title.

Josh Ehr (130), T.J. Burnfield (140) and Chase Sprunger (152) all finished as runners-up.

Woodlan tops SA

WOOBURN - Ashton Morgan racked up 27 points, but that was not enough. South Adams High School's girls basketball team still lost Saturday, 64-48 to the host Woodlan Warriors.

Morgan's career-high scoring total helped the Starfires (4-10) to a halftime tie before they got outscored 41-25 in the second half. Tara Beitler added nine points for SAHS, which has lost four straight.

Lyndsey Chandler scored four points for the Starfires in their 30-11 junior varsity defeat.

Tribe 7th wins

ST. MARY'S, Ohio - Fort Recovery Middle School's seventh grade boys basketball team dominated the first and third quarter Saturday for a 55-44 win over St. Mary's. The eighth graders lost, 49-39.

Elijah Kahlig scored 17 points to pace the seventh grade Indians (6-2), who pulled out to an 18-7 lead in the first quarter and outscored St. Mary's 20-6 in the third. Ben Dilworth added nine points.

Connor Rammel scored eight points to lead the Tribe eighth graders. Chad Schroer followed with seven points.[[In-content Ad]]
