Starfires beat Woodlan

BERNE — Joel Schmidt, Hannah Moore and Trisha Myers led the way for the Starfires Tuesday.
The seniors each won two events to lead the South Adams High School track teams as the boys scored an 84-39 victory over the Woodlan Warriors and the girls won 72-51.
Schmidt had a strong day in the hurdles, winning the 110-meter event in 16 seconds flat and the 300 in 43.4.
Myers took the top spot in the girls 300 hurdles in 53.6, and also won the high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches. Moore controlled the distance events, taking the 1,600 run in 6 minutes and the 3,200 in 12:07.
Other wins for the boys team came from Evan Liechty (1,600 run), Tim Lehman (400 dash), Andrew Steffen (800 run), Cody Sprunger (3,200 run) and Evan Johnston (discus). Picking up victories for the girls were Kristen Muselman (800 run), Hannah Mitchel (shot put) and Leah Mitchell (discus).

Heritage tops softball
MONROEVILLE — South Adams had the lead twice Tuesday, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in a 6-4 loss to the host Heritage Patriots.
The Starfires jumped out to a 2-0 lead and were up 4-2 before Heritage scored four times in the fifth inning.
Alyssa Bluhm took the loss for the Starfires (3-6). She gave up six runs — three earned — on six hits and six walks while striking out six.
Alaina Johnston led SAHS, which has dropped three straight, going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Bluhm had two hits, one run and one RBI, and Brianna Nevil also added two hits.

Golfers finish 3rd
DECATUR — Chase Mosser posted the low score for the Starfires as they placed third in a four-team match at Cross Creek Golf Club.
South Adams finished at 191 as it trailed Heritage (171) and Woodlan (183). Adams Central was fourth with a 201.
Mosser set the pace for the Starfires as he finished with a 46. Mark Muselman followed at 47, and Mark Smith and Derek Fox each finished at 49.
Peter Amstutz shot a 50.
