Starfires crowned champs

MONROE — The South Adams High School boys cross country team had a near-perfect score Tuesday to win its fifth straight Allen County Athletic Conference title.
South Adams’ score of 17 was 40 points ahead of second-place Leo (57). Bluffton was third with 86.
The Starfire girls placed second in the conference meet with 62 points, edging out third-place Southern Wells in sixth-runner tiebreaker. Garrett won with 53 points.
Sawyer Miller, Bailey McIntire and Brody Shane led the Starfire boys, finishing within three seconds of each other for first, second and third places respectively.
Miller crossed the finish line in 17 minutes, 15 seconds. McIntire finished one second later, and Shane was two seconds behind.
Daniel Velasco (17:48 – fifth) and Daniel Steffen (17:53 – sixth) rounded out the Starfires’ team score.
All five South Adams boys were named to the All-ACAC first team, while Clayton Rhoades was named to the ACAC second team with an eighth-place finish.
On the girls side, Kara Seffernick was second overall, crossing the finish line in 20:59. Aleesha Goodwin placed 10th in 22:08, and Katelin Hawbaker 13th in 22:44.
Lauren Klaehn (22:03 – 18th) and Lily Shane (23:14 – 21st) rounded out the team score for South Adams.
Seffernick was named to the All-ACAC first team, while Goodwin and Hawbaker made the ACAC second team.

Stars fall in tourney
MONROEVILLE — In its opening match of the ACAC tournament at Heritage, the South Adams volleyball team lost to Garrett on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-15.
Alyssa Bluhm led the Starfire offense with eight kills. She also added four assists, four digs and two blocks.

Emma Rossworm had a team-high 13 assists, and Cady Farlow led South Adams with five digs.
Cindy Int’Groen had three kills, three digs and two blocks, while Lauren Smith and Kylie Pierce each had two digs.

SA shut out in sectional
FORT WAYNE — Blackhawk Christian scored two insurance goals in the second half Tuesday, shutting out the South Adams girls soccer team 3-0 in the Sectional 37 tournament opener at Fort Wayne Bishop Luers.
Alaina Johnston led the Starfires (4-11-1) with three shots on goal, while Madison Morgan and Sharon Balsiger each added one.
Gabrielle Amstutz made three saves for the Starfires in the loss.

Cavs top Tribe
COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery volleyball team came out on the losing end Tuesday against Division 3 No. 6 Coldwater, falling to the Cavaliers 25-11, 25-10, 25-18.
Cassidy Rammel and Tori Lennartz each recorded three kills for the Indians, while Kendra Siefring and Haley Knapke each added two.
Lennartz recorded three digs and Rammel had a team-high seven assists.
Caley Schoenherr led the Tribe with five digs, while Sierra Pugh, Siefring and Lennartz had three digs each. Rachel Pugh added two digs.
In junior varsity action, the Cavaliers beat the Indians 25-21, 25-16. Kirsten Jutte and Abby Wenning each had for kills for Fort Recovery, and Jutte had team highs in assists (five) and digs (four).[[In-content Ad]]
