Starfires earn 2nd victory

BERNE — The South Adams girls soccer team picked up its second win of the year Tuesday, knocking off the visiting Muncie Southside Rebels 5-0.
Olivia Turner, Rachel Simon, Bailee Green, Chassidy Vore and Erika Miller  scored in the win for the Starfires (2-11-1). Jessie Beavers added two saves.
The sectional tournament pairings were also announced Tuesday with the South Adams girls drawing Huntington North in the opening round of the tournament at Marion. They will play Oct. 11 at 5 p.m.
The Starfire boys will match up with the host Braves in the Bellmont sectional on Oct. 7 at 5 p.m.

SA spikers fall
WOODBURN — South Adams volleyball team slipped to 3-21 Tuesday with a 25-9, 25-13, 25-13 loss to the host Woodlan Warriors.
Alyssa Bluhm paced the Starfires with seven digs, six assists and two kills.
SAHS dropped the junior varsity match 25-14, 25-19.

Fort spikers fall
COLDWATER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery eighth grade volleyball team lost 25-18, 25-13 Tuesday to the Coldwater Cavaliers, and the seventh grade team lost 25-7, 25-15.
Tori Lennartz had three kills, three blocks, two points and a dig for the eighth grade Indians. Haley Knapke and Makayla Grover each scored six points, and Rachel Pugh added four assists.
Kirsten Jutte finished with six points for the seventh grade Indians (3-7). Trisha Thien had three kills, and Morgan Lennartz scored three points.

Star gridders split
BERNE — Isaiah Amstutz turned in a huge effort for the South Adams eighth grade football team Tuesday in a 45-28 loss to Adams Central. The seventh graders also fell, 20-0.
Amstutz racked up 127 yards on 14 carries, including TDs of 65 and 45 yards, and also caught four passes for 96 yards for the Starfire eighth graders (2-3). Mason Morningstar added two TDs, and Kane Sumner made five tackles.
Spencer Niece led the offense for the seventh graders (1-4) with seven carries for 26 yards.[[In-content Ad]]
