Starfires fight past Blackhawk

BERNE - A doubles sweep led the South Adams High School girls tennis team to a 3-2 victory Saturday over the visiting Blackhawk Christian Braves.

Kellie Howell and Sarah Muselman cruised to their win at No. 2 doubles, defeating Kelli Rich and Larissa Clark 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 1 doubles match, Amber Neuenschwander and Kassy Potts topped Chloe Taner and Leha Zjilstra 6-0, 6-4.

Alex Fox rallied from a first-set loss to secure the victory for the Starfires, defeating Sarah Wyatt 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Kellie Howell nearly turned in a comeback win at No. 2 singles, falling just short in a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 loss to Holly VanLaar. Tori Kistler lost 6-2, 6-0 to Morgan Bemisderfer at No. 1 singles.

Girls track is 2nd

BLUFFTON - Bailee Green and Hannah Moore led the Starfire girls track team to a runner-up finish Friday at the Allen County Athletic Conference Championships.

The SAHS girls scored 106 points to finish second behind Leo (157). The boys team was fifth in the eight-team field with 52 points while Leo won with 119.

Green led a one-two South Adams finish in the 100-meter dash, winning the titles in 13.52 seconds with teammate Jaci Liechty in second place. She was also the runner-up in the 200 dash, just 14 hundredths of a second behind Garrett's Jordyn Knott in 27.58.

Moore won the ACAC championship in the 1,600 run as she crossed the finish line in 5 minutes, 36.49 seconds. She also finished second in the 3,200 run in 12:26.38. South Adams also won the 4x100 relay.

Roman Smith turned in the only first-place finish for the boys team, taking the 300 hurdles in 40.97. Eric Isch was second with a time of 10:24.06 in the 3,200 run.[[In-content Ad]]
