Starfires go 2-1 against ACAC foes

BERNE — The Starfires bounced back from an opening loss Thursday to pick up a pair of conference wins.
South Adams High School’s wrestling team defeated Bluffton 51-24 and Heritage 50-30 as it hosted three Allen County Athletic Conference rivals. It opened the night with a 48-27 loss to Leo.
Boaz Marbach (138) led South Adams as he won all of his matches with pins in the first period. He pinned Leo’s Ernie Sandoval in just 47 seconds.
Klayton Hinshaw (195) was also 3-0 with a pair of pins. L.J. Moser (126) won both of his matches via pin, and Sawyer Miller (113) was also 2-0.
Mason Morningstar (HWT) and Eric Pimentel (132) each finished 2-1 for the Starfires, who are 11-4 on the season.

FR tankers split
MUNCIE — Fort Recovery’s boys swim team rolled to a 92-10 victory Thursday over St. Henry and lost 123-49 to the host Delta Eagles. The girls team also topped St. Henry, 92-26, and fell 123-49 to Delta.
Cori Stone led the Indians, earning both of their victories in the girls competition. She set a school record to win the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 53.28 seconds, and also took first place in the 100 butterfly.
Marshall Hull earned the lone win for the boys team in the 100 butterfly.
FRHS broke three other school records, with Payton Thobe setting a new standard in the 100 breaststroke as she finished second in 1:28.32. Mackinley Timmerman, Lane Hull, Andy Gray and Marshall Hull placed second and broke the boys 200 medley relay record in 1:55.35, and Liz Hipple, Emilie Sheridan, Cassie Gray and Thobe were third as they set a new 400 freestyle relay record in 5:26.26.


Norwell defeats Stars
OSSIAN — The South Adams girls swim team fell just short Thursday, taking its first loss of the season 88-87 to the host Norwell Knights. The boys lost 112-65.
Cady Farlow finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 12.59 seconds, and the 100 freestyle in 59.6 for the Starfire girls (6-1), who fell despite winning seven of 12 events. Kara DeLong took a pair of events as she posted times of 2:24.72 in the 200 individual medley and 1:05.96 in the 100 backstroke.
Cory Sank earned the lone individual victory for the boys team (4-1) as he finished first in the 500 freestyle in 5:35.69. He was also the runner-up in the 200 freestyle.

Tribe splits with Jays
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s eighth grade boys basketball team jumped above .500 with a 37-30 victory Thursday over the host St. John’s Blue Jays. The seventh graders lost 24-23.
Micaiah Cox racked up 14 points to lead the eighth grade Indians, who improved to 3-2. Caleb Martin added eight points.
Ryan Braun totaled seven points to lead the FRMS seventh grade squad (2-3). Will Homan scored five points.[[In-content Ad]]
