Starfires push winning streak to six games (04/24/06)

MARION — Three more home runs contributed to two more wins for red-hot South Adams Saturday.

The Starfires defeated the Eastbrook Panthers 4-2 and 9-2 to extend their winning streak to six games. They are 7-1 on the season.

Corey LeMaster hit the first of the long balls with a two-run shot in the fifth inning of game one. Lukas Baumgartner went 2-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run, and Andrew Caffee added a double.

Caffee also earned the win, allowing just two runs in seven innings. He gave up eight hits and struck out eight batters.

LeMaster went deep with another two-run shot in the second game, and Lukas Baumgartner hit a solo homer as the South Adams offense came up with 11 hits.

Mike Farris was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and a stolen base. Jordan Sharp had two hits, including a triple, three RBIs and a run, and Thomas Masterson tripled and scored twice.

The win went to Will Grandlinard, who gave up just two unearned runs in seven innings. He allowed six hits and three walks while striking out three.

Softball goes 1-2

BERNE — The Starfires defeated Mississinewa 1-0, but lost 4-1 to Manchester and 7-6 to Eastbrook as it hosted the three teams Saturday.

Amber Melick was outstanding on the hill in the victory, striking out seven in a three-hit shutout. She took the losses in the other two contests.

Renee Neuenschwander scored the only run against Mississinewa as Jordan Lehman drove her in with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Jana Beitler had the only other hit for South Adams.

Kalya Coblentz led the Starfire offense in the defeats, notching two hits in each. She drove in a pair of runs and scored once versus Eastbrook.

Brooke Fox went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Ashton Morgan had a triple, a run and an RBI.

Against Manchester, Fox had an RBI and a stolen base, and Lehman singled and scored the lone run.[[In-content Ad]]
