Starfires top Heritage
SAHS roundup
BERNE - Katrina Hawkins racked up three hits and earned the victory Tuesday as the South Adams High School baseball team defeated the visiting Heritage Patriots 3-1.
Hawkins allowed just a single unearned run on six hits and four walks as she went the distance. She struck out three batters.
The junior also finished 3-for-3 with a stolen base for the Starfires (5-4, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference), who scored twice in the sixth inning to grab the victory.
Kysha Cox added two hits and an RBI, and Brianna Nevil and Lindsay Chandler each had a hit and a run.
Track teams stumble
BERNE - The Starfire track teams suffered their first losses of the season as they hosted a three-team meet Tuesday.
The South Adams girls team scored 57.5 points to finish behind the Leo Lions (90) and ahead of Southern Wells (8.5). Leo won the boys competition with 90 points while SAHS had 41 and Southern Wells scored 23.
The victories for the Starfire girls team came in the sprints, with Bailee Green first in the 100-meter dash in 13 seconds. Jaci Liechty won the 200 dash in 28.0, and Grace Dobler was first in the 400 dash in 1 minute, 3 seconds.
Roman Smith picked up the only win for the boys team with a time of 42.1 in the 300 hurdles.
Both SAHS teams are now 8-1 on the season.
Tennis still winless
BLUFFTON - South Adams took both doubles matches, but suffered a singles sweep Tuesday in a 3-2 loss to the Bluffton Tigers.

In singles action, Tori Kistler lost to Kara Fiechter 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Alex Fox fell to Amy Baker 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and Aine O'Donnell took a 6-1, 6-0 defeat to Megan Evans.
The junior varsity team picked up its first win 4-12 over Bluffton led by an 8-0 victory at No. 2 singles by Abbie Campbell.

DECATUR - The Starfire boys golf team posted a 181 Tuesday at Grey Goose Golf Club Tuesday to finish second in a four-team match. Leo won with a 164 with Garrett (182) third and Adams Central (195) fourth.
Mark Smith led South Adams with a 42, and Alex Habegger added a 43. Stuart Poulson finished with a 44, and Mark Muselman added a 52. Daniel Heckard carded a 56.[[In-content Ad]]
