East Jay’s eighth grade girls weren’t about to stop at eight wins.
The Chiefs pulled away after a competitive opening quarter Thursday, improving to 9-0 with a 35-23 victory over the South Adams Starfires. The East Jay seventh grade team clobbered South Adams, 28-5.
Lindsey Wellman racked up 18 points for the East Jay eighth graders, who were locked in a 6-6 tie after the opening period. The Chiefs outscored South Adams 23-13 over the next two quarters on the way to the win.
Shelby Gierhart followed Wellman with five points, and Pazia Speed and Felicia Bentz each had four points.
The seventh grade Chiefs (8-2) rolled out to a 10-0 lead in the opening period, and also held the Starfires scoreless in the third quarter. Cara Garringer posted a team-high nine points, and Brittany Manor finished with seven.

FORT RECOVERY — The St. Henry Redskins had the lead in both games Thursday, but the host Indians would not allow them to hold on for victories.
Fort Recovery’s eighth grade boys basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter for a 38-36 win while the seventh graders erased an eight-point halftime deficit to take a 32-31 victory.[[In-content Ad]]
