Stars fall in tourney opener

GARRETT — The South Adams girls basketball team dropped its opening game of the Allen County Athletic Conference tournament 53-41 Tuesday to the Garrett Railroaders.
The Starfires (11-4, 2-3 ACAC) outscored the Railroaders (14-0, 5-0) in the second half by a score of 26-24, but it was not enough to overcome a 14-point first-half deficit.
Dzejna Ahmetovic scored 14 points to lead the Starfires, who also got 12 points from Sydney Willis and six from Sharon Balsiger.
Alyssa Bluhm tallied four points for South Adams.

FRMS drops two
VERSAILLES, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both lost Tuesday to Versailles.
Eighth grader Sydney Dues scored 10 points in the 33-29 loss to the Tigers, and Elise Gehle led the Tribe seventh graders with four points in a 45-11 loss to Versailles.
For the Tribe eighth graders, Carley Stone scored eight points in support of Dues, and Grace Thien netted four. Claire Metzger, Bridget Pottkotter and Lydia Schmitz each tallied two points.
Chloe Will, Devin Jutte and Audrey Guggenbiller all scored two points for the Fort Recovery seventh graders, and Hannah Knapke had one point.
