Stars finally win in 12th

BERNE — It took them two days and 12 innings, but the Starfires finally overcame Garrett.
Corey Seffernick hit a walk-off single in the 12th inning Wednesday to give the South Adams High School baseball team a 14-13 win over the visiting Railroaders in a game that started more than 24 hours earlier.
The Starfires had posted five runs to tie the game in the seventh inning Tuesday and both teams scored six times in the eighth before the game was suspended because of darkness. They played three more scoreless innings Wednesday before Seffernick finally delivered the game-winning hit.
Collin Affolder went 4-for-5 with a double, a walk and two runs in the marathon game. Blake Fox had three hits and two runs.
Affolder picked up the win, holding Garrett to one hit in four scoreless innings Wednesday.

Ludy goes deep
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Josh Ludy made the most of his start on Sunday, hitting his first home run for the Clearwater Threshers in an 8-7 loss to the Fort Myers Miracle.
Clearwater, the Class A Advanced affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, trailed 8-2 heading into the ninth inning. The Threshers scored three times before Ludy, a 2008
Jay County High School graduate, blasted a two-run home run to close the gap to one.
Fort Myers’ Adrian Salcedo struck out the next batter to end the game.
Ludy went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs in his fourth start of the season. He is hitting .250 this year.

SA shuts out Indians
BERNE — The South Adams girls tennis team rolled to a 5-0 victory  Wednesday over the visiting Union City Indians.
Shiana Scott and Alyssa Armenta led the way for the Starfires (3-6) at No. 2 doubles, shutting out Tiffany Reagan and Dakaota Dickinson. Holly Taylor and Maddie Graber picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mikayla Alexander and Emily Smith at No. 1 doubles.
Maddy Kloepper topped Alison Hunt 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, and Brittany Potts defeated Sandra Banden 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Erika Miller rallied from an opening-set loss to win her No. 2 singles match 5-7, 7-5, 6-1 over Kiana Cleere.
SAHS won the junior varsity match 8-0 with Jenny Potts, Megan Hreha, Faith VonGunten and the team of Ellie Kaverman and MaJena Gerber delivering shutout victories.[[In-content Ad]]
