South Adams did not have such a good day on the diamond against the Heritage Patriots Monday as its teams took a pair of shutout losses.
The baseball team managed just four hits, dropping a 3-0 decision. The softball team had just one hit in a 1-0, eight-inning defeat.
Justin Caffee suffered the baseball loss, allowing three runs — two earned — on nine hits. He struck out six and walked one.
Caffee, Kyle Neuenschwander, Craig Neuenschwander and Tyler Sprunger each had one hit.
Shante Miller suffered the loss despite her solid outing for the softball team to fall to 2-8. She allowed just one unearned run on four hits in 71/3 innings.
Candice Miller had the only Starfire hit, and Kayla Coblentz stole a base.
The South Adams baseball team will play at Norwell Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. The softball team will host Fort Wayne Wayne today at 4:30 p.m.
Fort falls short
Fort Recovery’s baseball team led 1-0 for almost the entire game, but then fell to a 2-1 defeat against the New Bremen Cardinals Monday.
The Tribe scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, and held that advantage through the first five. But, New Bremen jumped ahead with a two-run sixth inning and held on for the win.
Todd Post took the defeat, allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings. He struck out eight and walked two.
Nick Wehrkamp had one of Fort Recovery’s three hits and notched the lone RBI. Dusty Guggenbiller and Tony Diller added one hit apiece, and Post scored the only Tribe run.
The Indians will return to action today when they host Coldwater and 5 p.m.
Tribe edges Cavs
Seven players finished with two hits apiece as the Fort Recovery junior varsity softball team edged the Coldwater Cavaliers 12-11 Monday.
Sandra Sudhoff finished with two hits, including a double, two RBIs and a run. Sam Staugler had a pair of hits, including a triple, and two RBIs.
Abby Niekamp had two hits, three RBIs and a run, and Jodi Tobe had two hits, two RBIs and a run. Also picking up two hits apiece were Jill Wehrkamp, Lori Osterholt and Kelly Link.
Brittany Brackman and Betsy Overman each scored twice.
