The goal for the South Adams track team is always to win the Allen County Athletic Conference. They proved their point to a couple of ACAC foes Thursday.

With almost identical scores, the Starfire boys and girls track teams clobbered the Adams Central Jets and the Bluffton Tigers posting 83 and 82 points respectively.

In the boys competition Bluffton was second with 41 points, and Adams Central was third with 32 points. On the girls side it was Adams Central in second with 41 points, and Bluffton in third with 33.

Freshman Katie Weaver had another big day, winning a trio of individual events for the girls team.

Weaver took care of the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.2 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 27.5 seconds. She was also first in the long jump at 14 feet, 11 inches.

Fellow freshman Haleigh Lehman also came away with two wins. She was first in the 800-meter run in 2-minutes, 39 seconds and the 1,600-meter run in 5:43.

Erin Kruse grabbed the win in the shot put at 32 feet, 11 inches, Sami Keen took the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches and Lauren Tooley won the 3,200-meter run in 13:02.

The Starfires were also first in the 4x800- and 4x100-meter relays.

Heath Lehman and Kyle Litwiller each came away with a pair of individual victories for the boys team.

Lehman took the 1,600-meter run in 5:09. He was also victorious in the 3,200-meter run in 11:05.

Litwiller got his first victory in the 100-meter dash in 11.6. His second win came in the long jump at 20 feet,1/4 inch.

Adam Zimmerman beat the field in the 400-meter dash in 55.4, and Tim Conrad was first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.

South Adams added victories in the 4x800- and 4x400-meter relays.

The Starfires will host the South Adams Invitational Friday, May 7 at 5 p.m.

SA loses again

The South Adams softball team slipped to 2-9 overall and 1-5 in the Allen County Athletic Conference with a 9-2 loss to the host Bluffton Tigers Thursday.

The Starfires held a brief 1-0 lead in the second inning, but allowed two runs in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth. They scored one run in the fourth for the final margin.

Shante Miller took the defeat, allowing nine runs — two earned — on 10 hits in 41/3 innings. She walked eight batters and did not record a strikeout.

Renee Neuenschwander struck out a pair in 12/3 scoreless innings.

LeeAnn Snyder led a trio of players with three hits, but South Adams never was able to string together a big inning. Snyder went 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base.

Neuenschwander had two hits and a run, and Kayla Coblentz also had two hits. Candice Miller and Brooke Fox each had a single and an RBI.

The Starfires will play at Southern Wells Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

SA needs girls coach

South Adams is currently accepting applications for the position of high school varsity girls basketball coach. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 7.
