Stars secure ACAC crown

GARRETT — Make it three in a row.
The South Adams High School boys cross country team locked up its third straight Allen County Athletic Conference regular-season title on Tuesday with a 15-50 win over Adams Central in a three-team meet at Garrett. The host Railroaders did not have enough runners for a team score.
The Starfire girls won 24-35 over Adams Central and 25-33 over Garrett.
Brody Shane finished in 16 minutes, 49 seconds, to lead a sweep of the top five spots for the SAHS boys, who are 7-0 in the ACAC. Simon Sprunger was second in 17:26 followed by Joel Hawbaker (17:40), Sawyer Miller (17:55) and Cody Sprunger (18:06).
Kristen Muselman won the girls race for South Adams with a time of 21:12. Aleesha Goodwin was sixth in 22:46 ahead of Lauren Klaehn (eighth – 22:57), Katelin Hawbaker (ninth – 23:05) and Allison Amstutz (11th – 23:34).

Warriors top spikers
WOODBURN — The South Adams volleyball team suffered a 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 loss Tuesday to the host Woodlan Warriors.
Alyssa Bluhm finished with seven kills and seven blocks for the Starfires, and Cady Farlow added seven digs and three kills.
Lauren Smith posted a team-best 15 digs, and Ashlynn Jennings put up 13 assists.
SAHS lost the junior varsity match in two games.

SAMS girls CC wins
GARRETT — South Adams Middle School’s girls cross country team picked up wins Tuesday of 15-48 over Adams Central and 17-45 over Garrett. The boys team beat Garrett 26-29, but lost by the same score to Adams Central.

Olivia Von Gunten ran away with the girls race for the Starfires, winning by more than a minute in 11 minutes, 44 seconds. Kara Sefferenick was second in 12:48 ahead of Eliza Harruff (third – 12:49), Hannah Coates (fifth – 12:52) and Calyssa Lehman (sixth – 13:07).
Wyatt Miller paced the South Adams boys in third place at 11:49. Briar Goodwin was fifth in 12:03 followed by Kadin Gerber (eighth – 12:32), Paul Neuenschwander (10th – 12:54) and Logan Stephenson (14th – 14:33).

Starfire football loses
BERNE — The Starfire eighth grade football team lost 24-12 Tuesday to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets, and the seventh graders fell 8-6.
Josh Lahr scored on a 12-yard run for the South Adams eighth grade squad (2-3, 1-3 Allen County Athletic Conference), and J.D. Groh added a 6-yard TD run. Groh ran for 89 yards on 11 carries, and Corbin Blomeke made 10 tackles.
Joe Stuber ran for 111 yards and scored the only touchdown for the Starfire seventh grade team (2-3, 1-3 ACAC) on a 75-yard kickoff return. Stuber made 18 tackles, and Isaiah Baumgartner added seven.

Spikers sweep Woodlan
BERNE — South Adams’ eighth grade volleyball team rolled to a 25-2, 25-16 victory Tuesday over the Woodlan Warriors, and the seventh graders cruised to a 25-6, 25-8 win.
Morgan Alberson totaled 16 aces and seven assists to lead the Starfire eighth graders. Caralie Farlow had eight aces and seven kills.
Julia Grabau finished with eight aces to lead the seventh grade team. Jade Farlow had five aces, and Hanalee Weiland and Addie Wanner each added two kills.
