Make it a double-double.
Holly Stein, a 2007 Fort Recovery High School graduate, turned in the first of her career Wednesday in leading the Defiance College women's basketball team 68-65 over the Bluffton University Beavers.
The freshman scored 15 points and grabbed the rebound, her 12th, off a 3-point miss by Bluffton's Angie Lee on the final possession to seal the game. She shot 5-of-11 from the field and 4-of-5 from the foul line while adding three steals.
Stein also had five points, three rebounds and two assists Dec. 1 in an 85-66 loss to Anderson University.
For the season, she is averaging 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.3 assists per game, all of which are second-best on the team. She is shooting 48 percent from the field and 83 percent from the foul line.
Scott Bruggeman
Jay County - 2007
Turned in another solid effort in helping the Goshen College men's basketball team to an 81-73 victory Dec. 1 over Indiana Wesleyan.
Bruggeman was one of four Maple Leafs to reach double figures in the win, missing just one shot all night. He went 4-of-5 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line while adding three rebounds, two blocks and an assist.
Tyler Niekamp
Fort Recovery - 2003
Helped the NCAA Division II No. 9 University of Findlay men's basketball team bounce back from its first loss of the season with an 88-42 destruction Tuesday of Tiffin.
Niekamp scored nine points on 3-of-4 shooting, with all of his attempts coming from 3-point range. He also grabbed five rebounds to go along with two assists and a steal.
The senior also had three rebounds and an assist in the Oilers' Dec. 1 84-81 loss to Ashland.
Kurtis Hess
Jay County - 2006
Scored three points for the Carson-Newman College wrestling team Thursday in a 36-3 win over Spartanburg Methodist.
Hess came up with two reversals and an escape to earn a 5-4 victory.
Tiff Gaerke

Her No. 15 University of Dayton volleyball saw its season come to an end Dec. 1 with a 30-26, 30-16, 30-21 loss to the Michigan State Spartans in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Gaerke played in 13 matches during her freshman season, finishing the year with 26 digs and 21 kills. She also had five blocks, five aces and two assists.[[In-content Ad]]
