Swimmers close with win

HARTFORD CITY — The Jay County middle school swim team closed out its season in commanding fashion Monday.
The boys team won every event against Blackford, cruising to a 136-10 victory over the Bruins. The girls team also won in a blowout, 130-42.
Tayler Smeltzer (50-yard butterfly), Christopher McDowell (400 freestyle), Alex LeMaster (200 freestyle) and Cody Moser (diving) all earned individual victories.
Also earning wins were Noah Hummel (50 freestyle), Luke Nichols (100 backstroke), Alex Huey (100 individual medley), Jason Minnich (100 freestyle) and David Ostrowski (100 breaststroke).
The girls team took first in 10 of the 12 events, including seven of the nine individual races.
Kaitlyn Hicks (200 freestyle), Kaitlyn Dow (100 IM), Erica Hathaway (50 freestyle), Elizabeth McDowell (400 freestyle), Alex Bader (100 backstroke), Breea Liette (100 breaststroke) and Courtney Miles (diving) all picked up individual wins for Jay County.
Both teams won all three relays events.
Bader, Dow earn medals
INDIANAPOLIS — The Jay County Winter Swim Team sent five individual swimmers and six relays to the 2014 Indiana Age Group State Course Championships Friday through Sunday at IU Natatorium.
They returned with five medals.
Alex Bader earned three medals competing in the 13-to-14-year-old age group. She was fifth in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, and finished sixth in the 100 breaststroke.
Ashlyn Dow, who competed in the 10-and-younger age group, placed fourth in the 50 and 100 breaststroke to earn a pair of medals.
Also competing in individual events were Eliza Bader (11-to-12-year old age group), Mara Bader (10-and-younger) and Sophie Timmerman (13-to-14-year old). Eliza Bader’s top finish was 27th in the 100 breaststroke, Mara Bader placed 27th in the 50 breaststroke and Timmerman was 42nd in the 200 breaststroke.
Carley Stone, Ashley Lefever, Alex Bader and Timmerman placed 16th in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay of Alexis Bubp, Stone, Bader and Lefever was 26th.
Kyra Clark, Elayna Paro, Mara Bader and Dow swam in two relay events, placing 26th and 32nd respectively in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays.[[In-content Ad]]
