Swimmers top Wells Community

Jay County’s summer swim team topped Wells Community 570-530 Thursday.
Mara Bader won five events for 8-under girls, finishing first in the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, short freestyle, and long freestyle.
Jay County had five three-event winners. Eliza Bader won the 9-10 girls long free, butterfly, and short free. Kaitlyn Dow won the 11-12 girls long free, IM, and short free. Alex Bader won the 13-14 girls butterfly, IM, and breaststroke. Sophie Bader won the 15-over girls long free, butterfly, and breaststroke. Josh Lykins won the 15-over boys long free, butterfly, and short free.
There were four Jay two-event winners. Josh Monroe won the 8-under boys long free and butterfly. Lillian Clemmons won the 9-10 girls backstroke and breaststroke. Natalie Blakley won the 11-12 girls butterfly and backstroke. Tayler Smeltzer won the 11-12 boys long free and IM.
Other Jay County winners included David Ostrowski in the 11-12 boys breaststroke, Katy Smeltzer in the 15-over girls short free, and Sok Vormohr in the 15-over boys IM.

Revised Rockets schedule
The Portland Rockets will have a reduced schedule this weekend. The Rockets will play at Carrington Field in Fort Wayne at 6 p.m. Saturday, but all other games for the weekend have been canceled.

Shortened meet
Lightning shortened a Wednesday swim meet, but not before the Fort Recovery Eels could chalk up another victory.
The Eels (3-0) knocked off the Coldwater ’Cudas 586-472 through 71 events.
First place finishes included Ava Bubp in the girls 9-10 long free, Regan Martin in the boys 9-10 long free, Lukas Petit in the boys 11-12 long free, Carley Stone in the girls 13-14 long free, Cori Stone in the girls 15-over long free, Mackinley Timmerman in the boys 15-over long free, Stephen Jutte in the boys 8-under fly, Shelby Stammen in the girls 9-10 fly, Cassidy Martin in the girls 11-12 fly, Owen Sheridan in the boys 11-12 fly, Alexis Bubp in the girls 13-14 fly, Isaac Merril in the boys 8-under back, Kyra Clack in the girls 9-10 back, Lukas Petit in the boys 11-12 back, and Carley Stone in the girls 13-14 back.

Optimists win
Rough weather canceled one game and shortened another Tuesday in Portland Junior League Rookie Girls competition.
Optimist SB defeated Brewster 7-2 in the lightning-shortened contest. Emily Byrum tripled, doubled, and singled in the four-inning game. Doubles were chalked up by Hilary Cox Madison Reier, Emily Manor and Madilyn Butcher, who had a pair of two-baggers for Optimist.
Lydia Kiehn had a pair of triples for Brewster.[[In-content Ad]]
