Tankers close season with victories (03/15/05)

Jay County’s middle school swim teams completed its season Monday in excellent fashion, both scoring victories over Blackford. The girls won every event en route to a 146-39 victory, while the boys picked up a 92-78 win.

Cori Vormohr, Ivy Simons and Briann Saxman each won a pair of individual events to lead the Jay County girls, and the boys got a pair of victories from Steven Kelly.

Saxman took care of the sprints, winning both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle in times of 29.56 seconds and 1-minute, 10.07 seconds respectively. Vormohr was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:09.96 and the 50 butterfly in 28.42, and Simons won the 100 individual medley in 1:20.43 and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:18.09.

Michelle Landfair added a victory in the 400 freestyle in 5:46.69, and Lauren Murrell was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:26.62. Megan Taylor won the diving competition with 101.35 points.

Kelly grabbed one of his two wins for the boys team in diving, scoring 89.65 points. He also was first in the 200 freestyle in 2:24.04.

Chance Milligan won the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.35, Colton Smith was first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:38.53 and Thomas Bowen took the 400 freestyle in 5:46.64.

Baseball meeting

There will be a meeting for the Jay County junior high baseball program Wednesday.

The meeting will be in room 283 at Jay County High School, which is located in the science area, at 7:30 p.m.

East Jay and West Jay parents and players are invited to attend to discuss the upcoming season.[[In-content Ad]]
