Tankers top Bellmont (12/22/06)

The Jay County Winter Swim Team won easily Thursday, dominating Bellmont 552.5-340.5 at Jay County High School.

Eight different swimmers picked up four wins apiece. Jay County earned victories in 29 of 42 individual events and eight of 12 contested relays.

The host team dominated in the 9-10-year-old and 11-12-year-old girls divisions, with a pair of triple winners in each.

Eme Miller and Mary Hudson took care of the 11-12-year-old girls group with Miller winning the long freestyle, butterfly and short freestyle. Hudson's victories came in the backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.

Cousins Anne Vormohr and Sophie Bader combined to control the girls competition in the 9-10-year-old age group. Vormohr took first in the long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle while Bader won the butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.

Cori Stone and Sok Vormohr each won three events in the 8-and-younger division, and Alysha Miller and Danny Mart added three victories apiece in the 13-and-older group.

Stone took the girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke, and Sok Vormohr won the long freestyle, individual medley and short freestyle. Mart reached the wall first in the backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle, and Alysha Miller's wins came in the backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.

Adding two wins apiece were Ashley Mark and Laura Bowen. Sydney Sprunger took first in one event.

Seven qualify for state

Competitors from Gym City Gymnastics competed in the Hoosier Cup Dec. 16 and 17 with seven berths in the state meet.

Courtney Miles, Kristen Simons, Hannah Kaup and Hannah Graft at Level 4, Vanessa Miller and Malarie Houck at Level 5 and Kristen Ainsworth at Level 7 were all state qualifiers.

Lizzy Schoenlein had the best finish for Gym City, winning the Level 5 vault with an 8.9. Miles was second on both the floor (9.1) and all-around (34.55), and Simons was third on the balance beam (7.775).[[In-content Ad]]
