Tanner sparks Rockets' victory
FORT WAYNE — Zach Tanner hit two home runs and knocked in five RBIs to propel the Portland Rockets to a 9-1 victory over the Fort Wayne Cougars at Carrington Field Thursday evening.
Tanner’s first home run, a two-run shot, came in the first inning following a walk by Mitch Waters, giving Portland (21-5) a 3-0 lead after the first frame.
He hit his second home run in the third inning, and also added a double later in the game.
Chris Miller had three hits in his first game back from an arm injury and Justin Miller added two as every player in the starting lineup had at least one hit in the contest.
Waters, a Portland native, added two runs.
Matt Chronister recorded the win on the mound for the Rockets. Aaron Luna, Dalton Gentry and Quinton Smith all pitched in relief.
The Rockets are now tied with the Fort Wayne Jackers with a 12-1 record in the Fort Wayne League.
They will travel to Michigan City Saturday to face the Lakers in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
