Taylor wins race; Ingle/Osterholt captures title (08/10/09)

CELINA, Ohio - Even an inch of rain and a broken engine couldn't keep Ingle/Osterholt from winning the championship. But, those things did make for an interesting feature race.
Rain canceled qualifying and left a sloppy track for the second straight race in the American Red Cross/FCC Go-Kart Grand Prix, but the final race of the five-part series went on with Taylor Building and Concrete taking the victory at the Mercer County Fair.
Despite dropping out because of an engine failure on lap 42, Ingle Realty/Osterholt Motorsports still took the overall title with 188 points. The team, which also won the first heat, was first in three of the first four feature races this year.
Buschur Refrigeration & Air Conditioning was a distant second with 143 points after winning heat two Thursday. Sanning Service Station was right on Buschur's heels, placing second in the feature Thursday and just one point back in the overall standings at 142.
Platfoot Trucking put together its best performance of the season at the Mercer County Fair, placing third in the feature. Vore's Welding and Steel won the B-main race, and MS Welding/Homan Equipment/Tanasea Powdercoating topped the third heat race.
Rockets split on day one
EVANSVILLE - The Portland Rockets got off to a successful start to their regional trip Wednesday, then fell to the defending champions.
Portland, playing the American Amateur Baseball Congress regional tournament, defeated a Canton, Ohio, team 14-6 in its opener before losing 12-4 to the Canton Stallions.
The Rockets were scheduled to play Thursday at 4 p.m. with their tournament lives on the line. Those results were not available at press time.
Eric Van Matre led Portland to its first win, going the distance on the mound.
The game against the Stallions was tied at four in the sixth inning before the 2006 champions pulled away.[[In-content Ad]]
