Three from JC in All-Star game (06/28/06)

Local roundup

A trio of Jay County players will be part of the East-Central Indiana East-West All-Star game Friday night at New Castle High School at 7 p.m.

Recent JCHS graduates Justin Gilbert, Bill Spahr and Cody Hutzler will play for the West team. The game is a showcase for top players from the previous season’s senior class.

Gilbert led the Patriot offense in 2005, rushing for 1,461 yards and 15 touchdowns. His efforts included a school-record, 305-yard game in sectional play against Pendleton Heights.

He also totaled 34 tackles — three for a loss — two interceptions and one fumble recovery playing in the defensive backfield.

Hutzler, a linebacker, finished his career with 34 tackles and four for a loss during his senior season. He had one sack and one fumble recovery.

Defensive lineman Bill Spahr totaled 67 tackles, including 16 behind the line of scrimmage. He had three sacks and two forced fumbles.

In addition to the three players, Jay County assistant coach Tim Millspaugh will be the defensive coordinator for the West squad.
