Local Roundup
Joscie Kaup made it a three-peat this week as she was one of nine Fort Recovery athletes to be honored by the Midwest Athletic Conference.
Kaup, a senior catcher, was joined by junior third baseman Krystal Rammel in earning first-team honors. Kaup was also an All-MAC first teamer in volleyball and basketball this year.
Julie Smith earned second-team honors, and Lisa Grisez, Ciera Rammel and Alyssa Tobe were on the honorable mention list.
The Indians won their first sectional title by a 7-5 score over St. Henry Monday. They set a school record with their 16th win with a 5-1 victory over Coldwater Tuesday.
Senior C.J. Tobe was the lone first-team selection from the baseball team. Dusty Guggenbiller received second-team honors, and Dusty Tobe earned honorable mention.
Thirteen not enough for SA
Thirteen runs are generally enough to come away with a win. They weren’t for South Adams Wednesday.
The Starfire baseball team gave up six unearned runs and lost a wild contest to the host Norwell Knights 14-13 in nine innings. The wild contest featured six lead changes, including four after the sixth inning.
South Adams scored three times in the sixth inning to go up 10-8, and the Knights answered with three in the bottom of the frame for an 11-10 lead. The Starfires jumped back ahead with three runs in the top of the seventh inning, only to have Norwell tie it with one run in the bottom.
They played a scoreless eighth inning before the Knights took the victory with a run in the bottom of the ninth.
Justin Caffee suffered the loss in two innings of relief. He allowed two runs — one earned — on three hits while striking out two and walking two.
Kyle Neuenschwander paced the big day for the South Adams offense as he went 2-for-3 with a home run. He drove in three runs, scored twice and stole a base.
Kyle White went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs, and Rich Kaup was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Caffee doubled, scored twice and stole a base, and Aaron Givens had two RBIs.
The Starfires will host Woodlan today at 4:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
