Three Patriots wrestlers win titles at Delta (12/11/06)

MUNCIE - They were at the Delta Six-way, but three was the number of the day for the Patriots.

Jay County's wrestling team came away with three wins and three champions to finish in third place at Delta Saturday.

It defeated Adams Central 39-33, the host Eagles 54-22 and Fort Wayne North Side 65-16. Casey Kenney, Cameron Pfeifer and Josh Lochtefeld each finished as champions as they teamed to dominate the lower weight classes.

The losses for JCHS, which is now 9-5, came by a 32-31 score to Greensburg and 43-30 to champion Greenwood.

Kenney (103), Pfeifer (112) and Lochtefeld (119) each finished 5-0 for their respective titles. The wins for Kenney kept him perfect on the year at 14-0 while Pfeifer and Lochtefeld improved to 12-1 and 6-1 respectively.

Caleb Culy added a 4-1 record at 125 pounds. Other Patriots finishing with winning marks were Ben Theurer (135), Sha White (171) and Tom Smith (189) all at 4-1 and Justin Mann (160) at 3-2.

Stars go 2-3 at invite

NEW CASTLE - Dustin Ehr turned in a perfect day for the South Adams wrestling team as it finished 3-2 Saturday at the New Castle Invitational.

The Starfires opened with a 48-18 victory over Alexandria and also defeated Eastern Hancock 63-9 and Fishers 48-24. They lost to the host Trojans 51-21 and Yorktown 48-24.

Ehr (152) was the only South Adams wrestler to win five contested matches on the day. He finished with three pins, and scored a 9-6 win over New Castle's Justin Endmondson in double overtime.

Colt Gentis (119) finished 4-0, and Josh Kimberlin (189) was 3-0 to also finish unbeaten for the Starfires. Chase Sprunger (125) and Jim Marbach (130) each went 3-1.

Leo blasts SA girls

LEO - With the host Lions holding only one win, South Adams was hoping for a chance to notch its third. But the Starfires never found much offense and fell apart in the fourth quarter in a 53-25 Friday loss to Leo.

The Lions (2-7) built a 13-7 lead in the first quarter, but were up by just nine heading into the final period. Then they roared away, outscoring South Adams 23-4 in the final quarter.

Ashton Morgan's seven points topped the Starfires, who fell to 2-7 overall and 0-3 in the Allen County Athletic Conference. She also had four assists.

Katie Nichols added six points and eight rebounds, and Kayla Coblentz grabbed nine rebounds.

South Adams' junior varsity fell to Leo as well with Jana Beitler scoring nine points in a 62-17 defeat.

Homan powers Jay

MARION - Eric Homan racked up 28 points in leading the Jay County freshman boys basketball team to the championship in the Marion Freshman Tournament.

Homan scored 15 points in the Patriots' 48-23 opening win over Bellmont, and added 13 in a 50-39 victory over the host Giants in the championship game.

Jay County had first-quarter leads in both games and stayed in control throughout.

Bard Horn matched Homan with 13 points against Marion, and Jacob Chenoweth added nine points. Josh Beaty had 10 point sin the opening victory over Benton Central, and John Pettus followed with nine.[[In-content Ad]]
