Tiger teams defeat South Adams (05/16/08)

BERNE - Home field proved not to be much of an advantage.

Both the South Adams High School baseball and softball teams lost at home Thursday to the Bluffton Tigers. The baseball team went down 15-1 in five innings while the softball squad fell 4-1.

Ashton Morgan was responsible for the Starfire softball team's lone run as she tripled and scored in the sixth inning. Karen Bollenbacher had the only other SAHS hit, and Amber Melick had the lone RBI.

Melick gave up four runs - one earned - on five hits and two walks while striking out three as the Starfires fell to 14-9.

The only run for the South Adams baseball team (10-9) came in the fourth inning when Daniel Bollenbacher hit a solo home run. The senior also singled in the game, and Ethan Sharp had a double.

Caleb Armenta, Daniel Dynes and Travis Hunt added one hit apiece.

Kyle DeArmond took the loss as he gave up seven runs in just 1 1/3 innings.

FR JV softball falls

FORT LORAMIE, Ohio - Fort Recovery's junior varsity softball team had a brief lead Thursday, but it didn't last long in a 5-4 loss to the Fort Loramie Redskins.

The Indians scored twice in the top of the fourth inning for a 2-1 lead, but immediately gave up three runs in the bottom of the frame to fall behind again. They pulled within one run twice in the final three frames of the loss.

Shelby Brunswick took the defeat, giving up four runs - one earned - on four hits and eight walks in four innings. She struck out three batters.

Kelsey Faller led the Tribe offense with a single, a double and two RBIs. Lorraine Shier went 2-for-2 with a run, and Kendra Brunswick drove in a run and scored once.

Big wins in PJL

Both Portland Junior League games were decided by wide margins Thursday night as Graphic Printing topped Persimmon Ridge 19-5 in the Sandy Koufax League and Portland Kiwanis defeated Portland Lions 11-3 in Pee Wee Reese.

Nathan Frish smacked a pair of doubles and scored twice to power Graphic Printing. Corey Bellis and Cody Bellis each added three runs.

Ritchie Keen finished with two hits and two runs for Persimmon Ridge.

Jason Houston paced the Kiwanis win with two hits and two runs. Dakota Derrickson and Zane Shreve each added a hit and two runs.
