Tigers down Tribe (05/07/04)

The Fort Recovery baseball team dropped its final tune-up for Saturday’s sectional championship game, losing 13-2 to the Versailles Tigers Thursday.

The Indians dropped to 7-11 with the defeat. They will play the sectional host Minster Wildcats in championship action Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Versailles posted five runs in the first inning Thursday against Tribe starter Brad Fortkamp. Fort Recovery cut the deficit to three with a pair of third-inning runs, but the Tigers posted four runs apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.

Fortkamp took the loss as he survived just two-thirds of an inning and allowed five runs on five hits. He is 2-3 on the season.

Todd Post allowed eight runs — one earned — one five hits in 32/3 innings of relief.

Post had two of the Indians’ five hits, and also scored once. Dusty Guggenbiller tripled to drive in both of the Tribe runs.

Greg Faller singled and scored, and C.J. Tobe added a double.

Fort Recovery’s junior varsity baseball team also lost to Versailles Thursday, dropping to 0-13 by a 21-5 score.

Tony Diller took the loss as he gave up 10 runs — eight earned — on 10 hits in 11/3 innings.

David Schmitt and Jordan Staugler finished the game in relief.

Staugler knocked two of Fort Recovery’s five hits, and also scored a run. Eric Weitzel had the lone extra-base hit — a double — and drove in two runs. Tony Diller and Jesse Fortkamp each singled and scored, and Troy Dilworth and Kevin Schoenherr also scored one run apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
