Tri-Village holds on vs. Indians (12/15/03)

For the third time in four games this year the Fort Recovery boys basketball team started slow and faced a double-digit deficit Saturday. Again the Indians came back, but fell just shot in a 61-59 loss to the Tri-Village Patriots.

The Indians (2-2) also faced trailed by more than 10 points in the opening loss to Kalida and Friday night’s win over Jay County.

Fort Recovery dropped into the hole early as they were outscored 24-12 in the first period. Tri-Village shot 54 percent from the field in the first half for an eight-point halftime lead.

Using an advantage on the boards and three players in double figures the Indians rallied, but fell just short.

John Bihn paced the Indians with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 12 rebounds as the Tribe owned a 31-20 margin on the boards. Tyler Wuebker had a team-high 15 points, and Sean Kahlig scored 13.

Kahlig had five rebounds and two assists, and Dusty Tobe finished with three assists.

Corey Jay played a huge role for Tri-Village, finishing 10-of-12 from the field for 23 points. He also notched a double-double as he grabbed 10 rebounds.

Kyler Burns finished behind him with 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and seven steals.

Fort Recovery will play again Friday at New Knoxville at 6:30 p.m.

FR JV crushes Patriots

The Fort Recovery junior varsity team blasted Tri-Village 18-4 in the second quarter Saturday on the way to a dominating 60-33 victory.

The Indians (3-1) got a balanced scoring effort, with Aaron Kahlig setting the pace with 11 points and seven rebounds. Todd Post scored 10 points, and Ryan Staugler and Seth Bihn each had nine.

Stan Roessner finished with five assists and four steals.

Ryan Snyder led Tri-Village with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Patriots place eighth

The Jay County boys swim team struggled Saturday, finishing eighth out of nine teams with a score of 59 at the Norwell Invitational.

The Patriots finished the day without a win, and had just four top-six finishes overall.

Junior Matt Peterson was responsible for two of those efforts, including a team-best fifth play result in the 100-yard freestyle. He finished in a personal-best time of 57.06 seconds.

Peterson also took sixth in the 200-yard freestyle as he turned in another personal best time. He finished that race in 2-minutes, 05.88 seconds.

Adam Miller added a sixth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.54. Daniel Fisher was sixth as he finished the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.75.

Klopp, Vormohr perfect

Justin Klopp and Cori Vormohr each finished undefeated as they led the Jay County Winter Swim Team at the Southeastern Indiana Holiday Invitational at Richmond High School Saturday.

Klopp won high-point honors in the 13-and-older boys division, taking first in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Vormohr was the top scorer in the 13-and-older girls division as she won the 50-and 100-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley.

Sam Miller was also the high-point swimmer in the 11-12-year-old boys division as he finished with three victories. He was first in the 50-yard backstroke, the 50-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley.

Alysha Miller added wins in the 9-10-year-old girls 50- and 100-yard freestyle. Lance VanSkyock, Kelci Reed, Laura Bowen, Emilee Miller and Levi Hummel also added top-six finishes.

Fort tickets

Advance tickets for Fort Recovery’s boys basketball games at New Knoxville Friday and at home against Crestview Saturday will go on sale Thursday.

Tickets will be available in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. They will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 to 11:30 a.m.

Advance tickets are $5 adults and $3 for students. All tickets at the door will be $5.

There will be no advance ticket sales for Fort Recovery’s game Saturday, Dec. 27 at Ansonia.[[In-content Ad]]
