Tribe 2-1 at JCHS invite

Fort Recovery's High School's freshman volleyball team went 2-1 Saturday at the Jay County Invitational while the host Patriots finished 1-2.

The Indians scored wins of 25-17, 25-13 over South Adams and 25-19, 25-13 over Marion before falling 25-20, 25-19 to Adams Central in their final match. JCHS defeated Eastbrook 25-19,m 25-23, but lost to Marion 25-22, 19-25, 15-14 and Adams Central 25-5, 25-14.

Emily Link led both Tribe wins with nine points and five assists against Marion and 10 points, two assists and one dig versus South Adams. Amy Link had seven kills in the tournament.

Abby Vance powered Jay County with 21 digs, 19 points and eight aces, including 10 points and eight digs in the win over Eastbrook. Paige Lennartz finished the tournament with 12 assists and eight points, Audrey Avey had 18 digs and Shelby Shirk recorded seven kills.

Shane places 1st

FORT WAYNE - Brody Shane won the New Haven Classic Saturday to lead the South Adams Middle School boys cross country team to a third-place finish. West Jay placed sixth.

Shane dominated the race, winning by just over 45 seconds in 13 minutes, 42 seconds. Ryan Ford followed in 31st at 15:31 ahead of Daniel Valesco (54th - 16:13), Chance Sprunger (114th - 17:39) and Cole Litwiller (137th - 18:16) in the group of nearly 250 runners.

Miranda Gerber was the fastest runner in the girls race, finishing 36th in 17:40 as the lone West Jay competitor.

Kyler Carvel paced West Jay's boys in 39th at 15:47. Skylar Newsome was 143rd in 18:20 ahead of Skyler Johnson (165th - 18:57), Caleb Kraft (193rd - 19:59) and Darrian Bechtol (195th - 20:03).

Allison Amstutz led the Starfire girls team in 65th at 18:25. Katelin Hawbaker finished in 19:42 for 115th followed by Erika Miller (122nd - 19:51), Aleesha Goodwin (13th - 20:18) and Saedie Hawbaker (155th - 21:00).[[In-content Ad]]
