Tribe 8th wins MAC title (02/23/04)

Those four regular-season losses don’t mean too much now.

The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team finished its season on a big-time high note, dominating the Marion Local Flyers 54-36 to win the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament.

The Indians (14-4) jumped out to a quick 10-point lead, racking up 17 points in the first quarter. They went up 32-20 at halftime and increased the margin to 18 points after three quarters as they rolled to the win.

Bobby Rammel led the championship effort with 17 points. Clint Tobe also reached double figures with 10 points.

Lucas Staugler and Eric Lamm each had eight points.

FR freshmen advance

Fort Recovery’s freshman girls basketball team advanced in the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament with a 35-33 victory over the New Knoxville Rangers Saturday.

The Indians (7-3) got nine points from Sam Staugler. Brittany Brackman and Sandra Sudhoff scored eight points apiece.

Indians fall in finale

The Fort Recovery freshman boys basketball team ended its season with a 51-31 loss to the St. Johns Blue Jays Saturday.

The Tribe was outscored in each of the first three quarters, falling behind by 11 at halftime. St. Johns put the game away by outscoring Fort Recovery 21-5 in the third period.

Kraig Wendel had 15 points for the Indians. Kenton Sudhoff added nine points.

Fort finishes 2nd

Fort Recovery’s seventh grade girls basketball team lost to New Bremen 28-24 in the championship game of the Midwest Athletic Conference tournament Saturday.

Anne Koesters paced the Indians with 10 points. Kinsey Wenning had seven points, and Joanna Snyder added five.

Jay takes third

The Jay County sixth grade AAU boys basketball team finished third in the six-team Knightstown tournament this weekend.

Jay County opened with a 61-31 win over Cowan Saturday, but lost in overtime to Knightstown 45-37. In Sunday’s action Jay County topped Connersville 40-29 only to lose to Winchester 45-44.

Austin Emerick and Eric Homan shared the team lead in scoring with 41 points apiece on the weekend. Brad Horn followed with 26 points, and Ben Vance had 21.
