FORT RECOVERY — The Indians have plenty of weapons.
For the second straight night Saturday Fort Recovery put four players in double figures on the way to a 61-38 high school boys basketball victory over the Wapakoneta Redskins.
Sophomore Elijah Kahlig, who scored 16 points in Friday’s season-opening win over St. Marys Memorial, again led the Indians with 18 points.
Fort Recovery (2-0) took control with a 12-0 run bridging the first and second quarters, during which Wade Gelhaus scored seven of his 15 points. Jared Kahlig also scored 15 points, and Jason Pottkotter added 11 as the team shot 56 percent from the field.
Gelhaus also had 11 rebounds, and Elijah Kahlig came up with five steals.
Travis Bertram paced Wapakoneta with 13 points.
Mason Evers scored 18 points to lead the FRHS junior varsity team, which fell 42-38.
Kahlig leads girls
FORT RECOVERY — The Indian girls basketball team blitzed the Wapakoneta Redskins from the opening tip, leading by as many as 21 points in a 58-44 victory Saturday.
Fort Recovery (3-0) scored the first six points of the game and ran out to a 10-1 lead. It was up 48-27 at the close of the third quarter.
Kylie Kahlig was on fire for the Tribe, shooing 9-of-12 from the field and hitting all of her five free throws for a game-high 23 points. The Indians spent a lot of time at the foul line, where they outscored Wapakoneta 20-4.
Kahlig also shared the team high of eight rebounds with Kelly Nietfeld, who also scored 15 points.
Annie Henderson led the Redskins with 11 points.
Kara Jutte had 10 points for the FRHS junior varsity team in a 32-27 victory.
Freshmen split
Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team blanked the host Spencerville Bearcats in overtime for a 38-28 victory Saturday. The girls lost 41-20 at home to the Minster Wildcats.
Cole Wendel scored 10 points to lead the Indian boys in their season opener. Cole Hull had eight points, and Dillon Whitacre grabbed 10 rebounds.
Kara Jutte scored nine points for the FRHS girls, who trailed 19-7 at the half. Mikayla Grover followed with four points.[[In-content Ad]]
