Tribe boys earn second victory (02/06/04)

Fort Recovery’s seventh grade boys basketball team was ready for a win.

The Indians rallied from a 14-7 first-quarter deficit for a 42-35 victory over the Parkway Panthers Thursday, their second of the year. The eighth grade team put together a big fourth quarter for a 40-28 victory.

The seventh grade team trailed by seven, but cut the deficit to 18-16 at halftime. It took a one-point lead with a quarter to play, and outscored Parkway 15-9 in the final period.

Toby Metzger scored 15 points to pace Fort Recovery (2-10).

Wes Kahlig had 11 points and four rebounds, and Jordan Hess added six points and five boards. Luke Knapke grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The eighth grade Indians (8-4) led by just two points heading into the final period. But, they outscored Parkway 12-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Clint Tobe paced the Tribe with 16 points. Lucas Staugler had eight points, and Curt Heitkamp added seven points and four rebounds.

Fort girls roll

The Fort Recovery junior high girls basketball teams each improved to 10-3 with victories over the Marion Local Flyers Thursday. The seventh grade team rolled to a 40-11 victory, and the eighth grade team earned a 34-24 win.

The eighth graders never allowed more than four points in a quarter. They held a 21-7 lead at halftime and never looked back.

Joanna Snyder led the Tribe scoring with 12 points. Kelsey Wuebker was next with eight points.

Fort Recovery’s seventh grade team powered to a 13-5 lead after one quarter on the way to its victory. Val Fortkamp led the way with 13 points, and Jill Pottkotter finished with seven.

High Rollers win

The Jay County Blue Jay High Rollers clinched conference runner-up honors with a victory over Norwell Wednesday.

Jay County defeated Norwell 14-6 in a Baker format match.

The victory forged a three-way tie for second place in the Hoosier Conference, with Jay County winning the total points tiebreaker. It marks the highest finish in team history for the High Rollers.

Jay County will compete in the conference singles tournament at Plaza Lanes in Marion Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m.

Clinics scheduled

Basketball clinics for fourth, fifth and sixth graders registered as Minutemen and Junior Lady Patriots are scheduled for Saturday. Boys (Minutemen) will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and girls (Junior Lady Patriots) from 2:30 to 4 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
