Tribe comeback cut down at plate (05/09/07)
FRHS baseball
FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery baseball team very nearly pulled off another dramatic comeback Tuesday, but fell just short in a 2-1 loss to the Versailles Tigers.
Three days after rallying for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat New Bremen in the opening round of the sectional tournament, the Indians found themselves trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh against Versailles. They loaded the bases for Kevin Schoenherr, who ripped a single to bring home Troy Metzger. However, Curt Heitkamp was thrown out at the plate trying to score the tying run on the play.
Clint Tobe took the defeat as the Tribe dropped to 2-6 in the Midwest Athletic Conference and 8-8 overall. He gave up two runs - one earned - on nine hits and a walk while striking out seven in 61/3 innings.
The only Indian hit prior to Schoenherr's RBI single in the seventh was a single by Toby Metzger.
