Tribe earns 2nd MAC win

FORT RECOVERY — After a double-digit losing streak, the Indians have put together back-to-back victories.
Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team picked up its second conference win of the year Tuesday, cruising past the St. John’s Blue Jays 25-15, 25-7, 25-13.
Kelsey Fiely powered the Indians (6-15, 2-5 Midwest Athletic Conference) to the victory over St. John’s (3-18, 0-8 MAC) with 14 service points, seven kills and five digs. Ericka Lennartz totaled eight kills, and Kara Faller added seven kills and two blocks.
Kayla Kahlig put up 15 assists for Fort Recovery, which had lost 11 in a row before sweeping Ansonia in three games Monday. Amy Link scored 14 service points, Kylie Kahlig totaled 10 blocks and Abby Backs notched four digs.
Sierra Pugh had 12 assists and nine service points in the junior varsity team’s 25-15, 25-27, 25-8 victory.

Jay extends streak
Jay County’s volleyball team pushed its winning streak to seven Tuesday with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-23 sweep of the visiting Bluffton Tigers.
Hannah Ainsworth put up 25 assists and shared the team lead with seven service points for the Patriots, who are now 16-12. Their last loss came Sept. 22 to Class A No. 2 Wes-Del.
Alyssa Rigby also had seven service points, including a pair of aces, to go along with a team-high seven digs. Mariah Hornaday totaled 11 kills, Maria Murphy had eight kills and Jennifer Dirksen and Randa Gillespie each finished with five digs.
Courtney Finnerty had 16 service points, eight assists and three aces in the junior varsity team’s 25-21, 23-25, 15-6 victory. The JCHS freshman squad won 25-16, 25-11.

Star spikers roll
BERNE — The South Adams volleyball team picked up a 25-19, 25-15, 25-13 victory Tuesday over the visiting Union City Indians.
Lily Taing finished with 31 assists and five aces in the victory, and Chelsea Bollenbacher totaled 16 kills and four blocks. Ashlynn Jennings had three kills and a block for the Starfires, who improved to 8-19.
In the junior varsity match, Mackenzie Jennings led SAHS to a 25-11, 25-19 victory with six assists, four kills, four digs and three aces.


Jays defeat Fort
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade volleyball team fell 25-17, 26-24 Tuesday to the host St. John’s Blue Jays. The seventh graders lost 25-22, 25-9.
Morgan Lennartz finished with four kills, four service points and two blocks to lead the eighth grade Indians. Kirsten Jutte had seven assists.
Jill Roessner’s six service points paced the seventh grade squad. Logan Ranly added four service points.
Both teams are now 6-10.

SA gridders split
WOODBURN — The South Adams eighth grade football team put up four first-quarter touchdowns Tuesday on the way to a 42-12 domination of the host Woodlan Warriors.
The Starfire seventh graders lost 6-0.
Drew LeFever and Kody Coates each scored twice in the first quarter for the SAMS eighth graders. LeFever added a third TD run, and Coates hauled in a 31-yard scoring pass from Justin Nussbaum.
Cole Myers added a 27-yard TD run, and Matt Hilton racked up 11 tackles.
James Groh paced the defense for the Starfire seventh grade team with 10 tackles and a sack as it held Woodlan scoreless until the fourth quarter. Blade Zeitvogel had 53 yards on 19 rushing attempts.

Baskett tops EJ
GAS CITY — East Jay’s eighth grade volleyball team suffered a 25-13, 25-15 loss Tuesday to host R.J. Baskett. The sixth graders fell 20-25, 25-13, 15-14.
Savanna Mace finished with five service points and four aces to lead the East Jay eighth graders (11-11). Kylie Osborne had two kills, two assists and a block.
Kaylee Inman racked up 19 service points, including seven aces, for the sixth grade Chiefs. Irene Braun scored four service points.[[In-content Ad]]
