Tribe earns sweep

NEW MADISON — The Tribe continues to roll.
Derek Backs, Jackson Hobbs and Blake Boughman led the Fort Recovery baseball team to a sweep Saturday over the host Tri-Village Patriots.
Backs was 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in an 8-5 victory over the Patriots in the first game. Hobbs was 3-for-4, driving in a pair of runs while Boughman went 2-for-3 with three runs in the Tribe’s 9-4 win in the second game.
Elijah Kahlig gave up one earned run while striking out three and walking one in four innings of work to get the win in game one for Fort Recovery (9-1). Cole Wendel recorded the win in the second game, scattering eight hits in five innings of work while allowing two runs — one earned.
Mitch Stammen and Wendel each added three hits on the day, and Kyle Schroer had two.
The Indians have won nine straight games since dropping their season opener to Celina.


Knights slay Stars
BERNE — A big inning in both games gave the visiting Norwell Knights a doubleheader sweep over the South Adams softball team Saturday.
Norwell scored four runs in the second inning and added one more in the third to take the first game 5-2. The Knights found themselves behind 5-3 after five in the second game, but plated three runs in the sixth and six in the seventh for a 12-5 win.
Maddie Morgan led the Starfires with three hits, including one double, and three RBIs. Alyssa Bluhm added three hits, drove in one run and scored once. Abby Myers had a pair of RBIs.
Myers took the loss in the first game, and Katelin Augsburger was the losing pitcher in game two.[[In-content Ad]]
