Tribe freshmen roll to victory over Covington (10/07/03)

Count Covington as the latest team on the list of victims for the Fort Recovery freshman volleyball squad.

The Indians improved to 14-2 Monday, crushing the Buccs 15-1, 15-9.

Brittany Brackman orchestrated much of the destruction, serving 14 points for the Tribe. She also had 10 digs in the victory.

Holly Stein and Abby Niekamp each scored four points, with Stein contributing 20 sets and Niekamp adding 15. Jodi Tobe had five kills, and Lauren Wenning had four kills and a pair of blocks.

FR splits with Tigers

The Fort Recovery junior high volleyball teams took on Ansonia Monday with the eighth grade team scoring a 17-15, 15-4 victory while the seventh grade team lost to the Tigers 16-14, 15-9.

Heather Schmackers paced the eighth grade team (7-6) with 11 points and 13 sets. Kris Willmann followed with five points, and Angie Wenning also had 13 sets.

Ashley Grube totaled as many kills as the rest of the team combined as she finished with eight. Lindsey Fortkamp added three digs.

The seventh grade team (7-6) got another solid effort from Kinsey Wenning. She paced the team with five digs and three kills, and added one block.

Joanna Snyder and Chelsea Klenke each scored four points. Klenke added seven sets, and Snyder came away with three digs.

Kelsey Wuebker finished with eight points and 10 sets. Anne Koesters had a pair of kills and one block.

Tribe falls short

Fort Recovery’s freshman football team stayed close Monday, but couldn’t pull off a victory against New Bremen. The Indians lost to the Cardinals 16-12.

Matt Tobe recorded both Tribe scores, with each of them coming in the fourth quarter. He made it to the end zone on runs of six and 45 yards.

Joscie on TV

Fort Recovery senior Joscie Kaup has been chosen by Lima’s WLIO Channel 35 as the scholar athlete of the week. Her segment will air Monday, Oct. 13 at 6 and 11 p.m.

Ticket sales

Tickets for Fort Recovery’s home football game Friday against New Bremen will go on sale Thursday.

They will be available in the high school office Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tickets will also be sold in the middle school office Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Pre-sale tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. All tickets at the gate will be $5.[[In-content Ad]]
