FORT RECOVERY — The Indians bounced back nicely from a heart-breaking, buzzer-beating loss.
Two days after losing by two to Division IV No. 2 Minster, the Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team turned in a convincing 63-53 victory Saturday over the Fort Loramie Redskins.
FRHS (10-2) extended a six-point halftime lead to 12 after three quarters, and pushed ahead by as many as 18 in the fourth. It shot 68 percent (12-of-18) in the second half to pull away while holding the Redskins (9-5) to 37 percent for the game.
Holly Brunswick shot 6-of-10 to lead the effort with team highs of 17 points and seven rebounds. Olivia Thien was also 6-of-10, including three 3-pointers, as she totaled 16 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Tessa Benanzer had 21 points for Fort Loramie.
Fort Recovery dropped the junior varsity game 28-22. Janelle Schwieterman scored eight points.

Boys fall to FM
FORT RECOVERY — The late-game magic wasn’t there for the Fort Recovery boys basketball team Saturday as it fell 44-39 to the Franklin Monroe Jets.
After leading by seven at halftime, the Indians (9-3) got outscored 11-3 in the third.
They trailed throughout the fourth, but were within two after a Jason Pottkotter three-point play with just 1:10 left.
However, the Indians failed to score again and Kyle Delting sealed the game for Franklin Monroe (9-0) with two free throws with just four seconds remaining.

Tyler Schrodl led the visitors with 14 points, and Delting added 10. Van Spilter grabbed nine rebounds for the Jets, who had five 3-pointers compared to FRHS’s one and outscoring the Indians by five at the foul line.
Wade Gelhaus had 10 points and 18 rebounds for the Tribe, and Pottkotter also scored 10 points.
In junior varsity action, Trent Kaiser scored 17 points to lead Fort Recovery to a 53-33 win.

Raiders top freshmen
RUSSIA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team struggled early in a 38-28 loss to Russia.
Kent Retz scored 14 points for the Indians (4-5), who managed just two points in the first quarter. Josh Pohl and Jacob Muhlenkamp each had four points.

MS boys roll
ST. MARYS, Ohio — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team rolled to a 51-34 victory Saturday over the host Memorial Roughriders. The seventh graders won 58-41.
Cole Hull scored 14 points for the eighth graders, who picked up their second win of the year. Cole Wendel added eight points.
Jackson Hobbs led the seventh grade team (8-1) with 15 points. J.J. Overton followed with 14 points.[[In-content Ad]]
