Tribe powers to 4-0 (03/31/07)

Fort Recovery roundup

FORT RECOVERY - Facing their first deficit of the season, the Indians were unfazed.

Fort Recovery fell behind the Crestview Knights 3-0 Friday, but rallied emphatically with a six-run fourth inning to reclaim the lead. The Tribe rolled on to a 12-5 victory, to keep their perfect record in tact through four games.

Clint Tobe had the biggest hit of the evening for the Indians, who host Houston in double-header action today, with a solo home run. Curt Heitkamp went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Troy Metzger added two hits and two runs.

Bobby Rammel racked up three runs and a pair of RBIs, Scott Hein doubled and scored twice and Frank Thien had two hits.

Hein, one of four pitchers who worked for Fort Recovery, picked up the win. He gave up two runs on two hits in 31/3 innings.

Softball earns 1st win

UNION CITY, OHIO - After a slow opener, Val Fortkamp broke out her bat Friday night and powered the Fort Recovery softball team to a 14-7 win over the Mississinewa Valley Blackhawks.

Fortkamp is the team's top returning hitter from a year ago, but went 0-for-4 in the Indians' 4-3, season-opening loss Tuesday at Russia. The Blackhawks were not so lucky as the junior ripped a triple and a home run en route to a five-RBI, three-run evening.

The game was tied at five after two innings, but Fort Recovery scored twice in the fourth and twice in the fifth before putting it away with a five-run seventh.

Ashley Grube followed Fortkamp with four hits and two RBIs, and Sandra Sudhoff added three hits. Beth May, Jodi Tobe, Heath Schmackers and Lauren Wenning each scored twice.

May also struck out four batters and allowed just one hit as she went the distance for the win.[[In-content Ad]]
