FORT RECOVERY — A 12-0 run to open the game left little in doubt.
The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team, ranked 10th in Division IV, led by at least nine points after its opening run and blew the game open in the second half for a 63-29 victory over the Franklin Monroe Jets.
Kelly Nietfeld was one of four players to score in the opening run and finished with 16 points to lead the Indians, who dominated the second half 37-14. She also grabbed 12 rebounds as Fort Recovery (10-1) posted a 44-18 advantage on the glass.
Olivia Schwieterman hit three 3-pointers and followed Nietfeld with 13 points, and Kylie Kahlig added 12 points and three assists.
Ericka Lennartz grabbed 10 rebounds.
Taylor Robbins scored a game-high 17 points to lead Franklin Monroe, which shot just 24 percent in the second half.

FR boys fall to No. 3
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A loss to one of the best teams in Ohio did little to hurt the Indians in the state poll.
Fort Recovery (9-1) fell just one spot, finishing third in the Associated Press Division IV boys basketball poll released Monday.
The Indians, who debuted at No. 2 last week, totaled 143 poll points to finish 23 behind second-ranked Newark Catholic (9-1). Berlin Hiland (11-0) earned the top spot in the poll for the second straight week with 216 points.
After opening the season with nine consecutive victories, FRHS suffered its first loss Saturday to Walnut Ridge (10-0) in the Flyin’ to the Hoop invitational. The Scots were ranked 10th in Division I in last week’s AP poll and jumped to No. 8 this week after the win over the Tribe.

Fort freshmen fall
MINSTER, Ohio — The Fort Recovery freshman basketball teams each suffered losses Monday with the boys falling 45-28 to the Minster Wildcats and the girls taking a 47-25 defeat.
Dillon Whitacre finished with 10 points and nine rebounds as the Tribe boys slipped to 3-5. Derek Backs added six points.
Cassidy Rammel totaled nine points to lead the Fort Recovery girls (2-6). Kara Jutte, Haley Knapke and Morgan Leuthold added four points apiece.

Simmons second
ADA, Ohio — Katie Simmons turned in a runner-up finish Saturday as one of two Patriot Track Club athletes who competed at the Western Ohio Track Officials Association and Ohio Northern University Elite Meet.
Simmons took the runner-up spot with a time of 5 minutes, 45.08 seconds in the girls 1,600-meter run. The Jay County High School senior trailed only Colerain (Cincinnati) Track Club’s Kristen Seiler, who won in 5:33.58, and was more than five seconds ahead of third-place Audra Schroeder of Liberty-Benton (Findlay).
Brad Leuthold added an 18th-place finish in the boys 400 dash in 56.9.

Eagles go 0-2
The West Jay Middle School boys basketball team dropped both of its games Saturday in the East Jay Tournament, losing 42-24 to St. Joe and 33-28 to the host Chiefs.
Dan Meranda totaled 12 points in the opening-round loss to St. Joe. Joey Springer followed with seven points.
Will Watson and Meranda each tallied nine points in the loss to East Jay. Springer added seven points.
Bryce Hensley had eight points to lead the Chiefs, and Bowen Runyon added seven.[[In-content Ad]]
