Tribe spikers continue hot streak (09/27/06)

FORT RECOVERY - The Indians have turned their seasons around.

Fort Recovery's seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams each opened the season 0-5, but have both gone 4-1 since. The eighth graders defeated the Delphos St. John's Blue Jays 25-17, 25-20 Tuesday, and the seventh grade team won 25-13, 25-14.

Holly Brunswick paced the eighth grade team with five kills. She also had five points, including four aces.

Kendra Brunswick had eight points, including three aces, and five assists. Olivia Thien had five kills, Holly Thien notched three kills and Nichole Kaiser and Megan Rammel each had a dig.

Olivia Schwieterman had a dominant serving evening for the Tribe seventh graders with 17 points and nine aces. She also had one assist.

Hunter McAbee had eight points, including four aces. Kara Faller had a kill, and Kylie Kahlig and Ericka Lennartz added one dig apiece.

EJ gridders top Dennis

RICHMOND - East Jay's 12-point opening half was enough as the Chief eighth-grade football team defeated Richmond Dennis 12-8 Tuesday.

The Chiefs built a 12-point lead at the half with each of their two scoring drives set up by John Norris fumble recoveries. The first led to an Isaac Bruggeman 1-yard running in the first quarter, and the second to a 6-yard touchdown pass from Brendan Reed to Colton Bartlett in the second.

Dennis pulled within four on a touchdown and two-point conversion in the third period, but could not get to the end zone again. East Jay forced a fumble to stop the second to last drive for Dennis, and an interception by Reed finished the last drive.

Reed finished 14-of-14 passing for 100 yards.

WJ spikers split with Raiders

PONETO - West Jay's eighth grade volleyball team pushed above .500 Tuesday with a 25-23, 25-17 victory over the Southern Wells Raiders. The WJMS seventh graders fell 20-25, 25-21, 15-9.

Kendra Younger scored four points in each game for the Eagle eighth graders (5-4). She also had a pair of aces.

Kylie Barber and Breanna Dahlstrom each added five points.

Krisha Barber scored nine of her team-high 11 points in the game-one win for the West Jay seventh grade team. Shannon Sprunger had 10 points, and Megan Sawyer totaled nine points.[[In-content Ad]]
